STALKS! STALKS! STALKS! STALKS!

Something tells me I’m not going to be eating homegrown sprouts for Christmas dinner this year. This pathetic assemblage of  ravaged stalks is all that is left of one of my two sprout trees and the other is not much better. They were pecked by pigeons when they were young and have now been savaged by slugs. If you have seen the show then you’ll know that sprouts play a central role and that we sing a rousing anthem in praise of this much-maligned vegetable featuring the chorus SPROUTS! SPROUTS! SPROUTS! SPROUTS! I feel like I have let everyone down.

Last year I just about managed to grow enough cranberries to make cranberry sauce for Christmas lunch but my cranberry crop – grown in an old bath – has also failed. But in good news, I now have a second bath and have already drilled some holes in it ready to create an exciting new carrot bed (or rather carrot bath) so it is not all doom and gloom.
