Where have we been?

Our ambition is to tour Can You Dig It? to every county in the UK.

Rodney nearly DIES (for real) in a terrible road accident!!!!

It was just an ordinary day in the lives of the UK’s best vegetable cultivation-based comedians, as Michael Buerk would have intoned if the BBC series 999 was still running. “We’d just done a show at Rampton Village Hall,” I would tell the camera. “It went really well and we packed up quickly and were looking forward to getting back to London in good time.” Then Michael would come in again with: “Little did they know that what was about to unfold would test them to their limits and nearly claim the life of a dear friend.”

So we set off back to London and had just turned onto the A57 when suddenly the boot of our tour bus sprang open and there was an almighty crash as props (including my morris dancing wellies), equipment (including an expensive speaker) and a cascade of sprouts and carrots spewed onto the road. I screeched and Dan pulled over and then ran like a superhero down the road to scoop up our belongings, including our beloved plant Rodney who was seriously injured and had come out of his pot.

Here is a picture of the scene of the accident. Somewhere in the middle of that junction is a pile of squashed sprouts and carrots.

It was all very traumatic and we were both in shock and terribly worried about Rodney. If you’ve seen the show then you’ll know Rodney is a key member of the Can You Dig It? cast. In fact he’s been with us since our very first show in 2011. He is a consummate showbiz professional and gives a flawless performance every time.

As soon as we got back to London, Rodney was rushed into intensive care and given a massive compost transfusion and I am relieved to report that his condition is now stable. Hopefully he will be well enough to perform in our next run of shows in Leicestershire at the weekend.
