Dan and I got through another successful preview of Can You Dig It? yesterday. One of the highlights was the first outing for ANOTHER vegetable instrument – the carrot pan pipes. They were a big hit. But perhaps the most exciting aspect of the evening was discovering that the staff at Warwick Avenue tube station – the nearest station to the venue we were at last night – have a vegetable patch actually at the station. Dan was so excited that he left me a somewhat incoherent phone message telling me about it. On my way home I got chatting to one of the London Underground employees involved, who introduced himself as: “Steve Graham, head gardener”. He was very eager to tell me all about his garden. Apparently they’re growing all sorts of things including “chocolate mint” and they have entered some kind of gardening competition. Maybe it is a competition for gardens at Tube stations. I hope they win and I hope this is the start of a new trend. We need more veg patches on the London Underground.
