We were thrilled to have banjo maker Flatfoot Johnny in the studio on Saturday, recording a track for our album. You can have a look at some of his beautiful handmade banjos on his website. On the track he plays a fretless gourd banjo.
In exchange for playing on the album, Jo and I are having a competition to see who can grow the best canteen gourds. At the moment I am winning, because my plants are large and healthy, while Jo’s are small and pathetic. And Jo refuses to use slug pellets, even the organic ones, so you can imagine what’s going to happen next time it rains.
She is probably doing this on purpose. If the gourds are tiny, Flatfoot Johnny won’t be able to make banjos and will have to make gourduleles instead.
