We may be in a different country and millions of miles away from our own allotments but that doesn’t stop us doing our bit. Here is a picture of me composting the leftovers from our cucumber trumpet-making workshop. I had to bring these bits home because the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh has strict rules about what it allows in its compost heaps – only matter grown on the premises. They’re very careful to avoid contamination, which is why they have have big, spongy mats full of some kind of disinfectant at the gates. These are no fun to walk across in flip flops, as I have discovered.
Not only are we conscientious composters here at Can You Dig It? but we have also created what we believe is the first 100 per cent compostable flyer and are encouraging people to pop them on their compost heaps to help improve their soil (once they have read them and bought tickets to the show, of course).
